One of the tricky parts was keeping the beading, which was sewn into the purple fabric.
I carefully cut all but the very bottom part of the material off, the part that the beads were threaded through. Then I wrapped thread around the material to neaten it up and keep it close to the wire hoops and out of the way and still allow the beads to dangle.
I gathered some complimentary embellishments and played around with them to see which ones I would use.
I started by hot glueing some fiber type ribbon to the bottom of the material (after measuring the new fabric against the old).
I hot glued the seam closed on the shade.
I really like the way this turned out and I like the neutral color.
Then I removed silk flowers from their stems.I hot glued flowers and rhinestones to the bottoms of both shades. And lastly I hot glued the shades to the wire hoops.
I really like the way this turned out and I like the neutral color.
The rhinestones look cute with the original hanging beads and the daisies make me smile!
Best of all, it functions very well at shading the light bulb.
Very clever solution! And thrifty, too!

I love what you did....I have also seen the same thing but rather it was tied onto the top with jute rope and knotted - it hung loosely...great job!

It's darling! I found a burlap lamp shade recently at The Salvation Army for our guest room re-design and I've been wondering if I should keep it or get a new one. It doesn't reallly fit the feminine decor. thanks to your project, I now know what I'm doing! I am going to hot glue some flowers to it! Perfect.
ReplyDeleteThanks so much!
This turned out great!

The purple lampshade is beautiful and only a dollar. That is the best deal for a lampshade I have ever heard of.
