A lot of people here are replacing their lawns and curb areas with drought tolerant plants. I've been planning on doing this too for a while and I'm glad it's done now!
After all of the grass was gone, I entirely covered the ground with black painters tarp. I used plastic instead of the weed block cloth, because I really want to block out any chance of any leftover grass roots growing back. My hubby moved some pavers from the backyard for this spot and I filled in the rest with gravel. Originally, I was going to fill it in with bark, but I think the pavers and gravel will keep the tarp anchored down better.
Here it is all done! No more yard work by the curb and now we only need to water the tree and the ice plant I added at the base of the tree to block out any grass that tries to grow back.
I might add some succulent plants in between the pavers in the future. It would be pretty easy to do. Until then, I'm enjoying the simplicity and easy care for this coming Summer.
