Welcome to the 203rd Masterpiece Monday!
Hi Everyone! Are you getting ready for Thanksgiving? Everyone has their own traditions for the holidays. So whether you are hosting or being hosted, I have a great, easy last minute side dish idea for you. It uses simple ingredients that you may already have in your pantry. This is a recipe that can be easily adapted to substitute fresh orange peel and fresh grated ginger if you prefer. The addition of dried cranberries and toasted pecans would probably push it over the top, if you're feeling ambitious.
Ingredients
1/2 pound of Brussels sprouts, sliced in half
1/4 cup of water
2 tablespoons of extra virgin olive oil
1 teaspoon dried orange peel
1 teaspoon powdered ginger
1 tablespoon of honey
optional-add salt to taste
Method
In a sauté pan, add water and brussels sprouts. Sprinkle the dried orange peel and powdered ginger on top. Cover with lid and turn heat on medium and cook for 10-15 minutes or until the brussels sprouts are bright green and wilted. Uncover and stir in the olive oil and honey. Stir frequently uncovered until liquid is evaporated and the brussels sprouts are caramelized.
I made a refrigerator test run with this recipe. After chilling the brussels sprouts over night, I squeezed orange slices on top and heated it in the microwave on high for three minutes. It turned out great. This would be an easy side to bring your hostess and easily heated in the microwave, leaving the oven less burdened.
