Dressing Up My Rusty Chandy

Hi, How are ya?  Before showing my chandelier, I thought I would share with you the pictures that Hubby took this past weekend. We've been getting a cycle of rain and clouds and then sunny hot days. This makes for some spectacular looking sunsets here.

The sky has been clear blue and clean of smog with fluffy white clouds and a light breeze during the day. And then the sky has been full of color when the sun sets over the ocean. Only God can create something this beautiful! :O)
And now, on to my latest mini make-over. I love this chandelier I found at a yard sale last summer for 20 dollars. The rusty patina matches my ceiling even!
However when I turn it on, the bare bulbs are stark and blinding. (I can't use a dimmer switch, because the cord just plugs into the wall and it's not connected to any switch) Also, I was told to keep the original candle covers by the seller who was an antique dealer. I have given them time to grow on me, but they haven't. So..........
I looked high and low for some cheap chandelier shades all over for months and finally found them at Tuesday Morning.
They didn't have very many to choose from and I had to dig for six matching shades.
They were only $3.99 each, yippee!
I liked the way they looked except the newness of the shade and the not-so-newness of the candle covers were not harmonizing too well.
Hmmmm................
I know, sheet music! Sheet music can fix a lot of things.
All I did was wrap the sheet music around the candle covers and secure with a glue stick, without damaging the original candle covers, easy! I love easy. After I took this picture I went to Home Depot and purchased some frosted bulbs, still bright but now the lighting is so much softer.

  1. I love your chandelier!!! It has so much character and the sheet music was the perfect touch. Maybe you could put a dimmer on your switch so you could turn down the light when you don't need it to be bright. I have one on my chandelier and you can really set the mood with it, but still have tons of light if you need it.

  2. Love your chandelier. It looks wonderful with the shades and the sheet music is such a clever and neat idea. You could install a dimmer switch to soften the light. I love them for chandeliers. Hugs, Marty

  14. Just beautiful!!! I love your chandelier-the shades look darling with the music on your candle pieces!! Beautiful! I wanted to let you know- I just put a dimmer switch on one of my chandeliers that has a plug at the end. They do sell little switches that you can plug your cord into just like an extension cord and dim away!! Just in case you wanted to try that at some point. The dimmer was about $10 at my local hardware store in the lighting section. :)

  17. so jealous! I want a chandelier so bad, but it doesn't fit in with the decor in my house. Maybe in my boyfriend's house, but I think ti would have to replace the ceiling fan in the dining room... which would be bad because that fan makes it livable in the summer. lol

  19. Beautiful, oh clever bargain hunter! I don't know if it's an illusion but the new shades and covers make the chandelier look rustier, in a good way.
