Transitional Decorating Tips and Linky Party #194

Hello and welcome to the
 194th Masterpiece Monday!

I've been re-arranging my furniture this past Summer and also slowly taking my décor to a more modern look. I will always keep my family heirlooms, but that doesn't mean that I can't change things up. This week, I'm going to share part of the entry way and how I incorporated the old with the new!

This is the only before picture I could find, it's from last Christmas. But picture it without the tree and add lot of straw hats hanging on it instead.

I found this really great starburst mirror at Gooodwill for only $7.99.

I decided that I wanted to put it in my entry way. So, I moved my grandmothers buffet in place of the hall tree.
I added some mercury glass candle holders from the living room and an orchid (faux) from my bedroom.  I transferred the orchid to the clamshell vase and added faux succulents and moss to create a new arrangement. I set it on an ironstone platter from the kitchen and added coral and fishing floats from the living room. I like "shopping" my house to use things in new ways, for free.

Some easy tips to think about if you're considering a décor change are:
  1. Be patient, Rome wasn't built in a day!
  2. Take your time and collect things you love.
  3. Decide which pieces you can say good-bye to.
  4. Re-think new ways to use and display the pieces you keep.
  5. It's O.K. to mix old and new pieces together and be unique.

I'm really happy with the change, I love the new mirror. I like the dark buffet against the white wall and the buffet stands out better here than where it was in the living room.

The starburst mirror is awesome and for $7, WOW!!! I love the piece of furniture from your granma with the mirror, as lots of them had them in those days. What a fun pumpkin patch, very unusual, my goodness.
Thanks for sharing,
Have a lovely week.
