Whole Wheat Pizza Dough




Except for once in a blue moon, we never go out to eat. So every Friday I compensate for that by making homemade pizza. Then we plan a game night or rent a movie. We always have great time.


I make my pizza dough four at a time, once a month and freeze it. My recipe calls for a food processor, if you don't have one look around at thrift shops, mine was $14.99 at Goodwill and my pizza pan was $1.00 at a yard sale. It's so helpful to have little machines that make life easier and allow you to save time and energy, so in turn it's easier to save money. And you won't be tempted to order out.


Whole Wheat Pizza Dough

3/4 c. warm water

1 package (1 tablespoon) dry yeast

1 teaspoon sugar

2 c. whole wheat flour

1 teaspoon oil

1/2 teaspoon salt


combine 1/4 c. water with yeast and sugar. stir to dissolve the yeast and let stand until bubbly, about 5-15 minutes.

Put flour, oil and salt into a food processor and process 5 seconds on high. Add yeast mixture and process 10 seconds on high. Turn on processor and drizzle remaining water through top feeder so the dough forms a ball that cleans the sides of the processor. Process so that the ball turns around about 25 times. Cover dough with a bowl on a lightly greased baking sheet for 10 minutes.


I roll mine out with a heavy drinking glass. I pre-bake it for 10 minutes at 350 degrees. I topped mine with cooked sausage, black olives and onion and I used only jack cheese. I load up on Spaghetti sauce at the 99 cent store. I bake it at 350 degrees for 25-30 minutes. I cut it with a rolling pizza knife I found at a yard sale for 25 cents.
