Habitat For Humanity Store: A Tour Of The ReStore

Our 10 year old dishwasher finally wheezed it's last breath, so it was time to get a new one. Why do these things seem to occur at times when it just isn't in the budget? Anyway, I've been hearing about this store for a while and vowed that we would check it out the next time we needed something they carried, rather than immediately buying it brand new.

I Googled the store closest to me which is in Garden Grove, Ca. They have these all over the country, so there's a good chance that there's one by you. You can find all kinds of things for your home for a fraction of the price you'd pay for it retail. Their merchandise comes from left over supplies from building homes for Habitat for Humanity, as well as previously owned, donated appliances and building supplies. And you're helping Habitat for Humanity by shopping there.

Before getting to the dishwashers, I thought I'd give you a peek at what you can find in one of these stores.....

And now, a man on a mission...

I sat around while my husband checked out each and every one of the dishwashers they offered.
They were priced from an amazing $10.00, because the lower panel was missing, but still. To $250.00 for a very fancy stainless steal number which usually goes for $1,000.00 brand new!

Hubby looked high and low, mostly low, to make sure the connections were there, because we weren't going to pay a plumber to install it.
He narrowed it down to these two. We got the one on the right, the control panel looked sturdier and the hoses looked the best and it was newer and cleaner looking. We've had it over one week now and it's the best working dishwasher we've ever owned.

They give you four days to take it home and try it out, but they will only exchange or give store credit if you return it. And of course there's no warranty. But that's OK with me, I've never owned any appliance that gave out before the warranty. So to me it doesn't make sense to buy a new appliance to get one.
I really like this store and I know we'll be back the next time we need anything.
