Home Depot Drop Cloth Slipcovered Couch

When my husband and I bought this couch, we didn't have any kids and only had one small cat. Now we have two teen aged boys and four cats. It has been a plan of mine to make a slipcover for this couch, not because I want to (it's 18' long) but because I need to! Because of it's unique length and shape, there aren't any pre-made slip covers that will fit it. Below is a before picture, It was becoming soiled looking even though I cleaned it a lot.

Below are the after pictures. I'm really happy with the drop cloth canvas I bought in the Home Depot paint dept. I bought two of the largest sizes and the entire project cost me $60.00.

All I did was pre-wash the fabric once and follow some online tutorials I found on making your own slip covers. *(I didn't follow any particular tutorial, I've just read a few over the past year, and had it in my head of what to try) I'm not the best seamstress at all, but I took my time (about 2 weeks) and it was pretty simple.

The canvas is surprisingly very soft, yet very durable. I love the color and texture of it and it looks natural and beachy.

Even making the matching cord trim was easier than I thought. The whole couch is less formal and cosier now.

A Very Sweet Valentines Gift

My youngest foster son made this Valentines card and bears for me at school the other day. It was a very sweet surprise which means a lot to me and I will always save and treasure it.

Thrifty Thursday and Show And Tell Friday

My thrifty finds for show and tell this week are: silk flowers from The Dollar Store, a vintage(?) vase from GW and plastic heart plates from Target.

I used the plates and vase for this weeks Tablescape Thursday in the post below this one.

I think the vase is vintage, but it's in very good condition for a vintage vase, unless it was stored away all this time. Otherwise, it's a very nice reproduction.

Thrifty Thursday And Show And Tell Friday

I found an incomplete set of seashell dishes at GW. Which is fine with me, because The amount was just right, neither too few nor too many. I've been keeping my eyes open for something white and beachy looking for my hutch. When I came across these, I couldn't pile them into my cart fast enough! I added my own round plates and teapot with the display.
I also found four tall crackle-glass glasses also from GW.

I found these little bird shaped, tea light holders at The Dollar Store.

The set of dishes came with six mugs. Again, not too few, nor too many.

I found two new green pillow shams, which I used in the Tablescape Thursday post below as a table runner.

They're brand new, even though they're from a thrift store. They look and feel clean and crisp and ready for a fresh new year.

Crate&Barrel or Pottery Barn are two brands I love to look for at thrift stores.

I love fresh flowers, but sometimes I like to come up with a much simpler, frugal arrangement.

Did you know that a grown adult person can wear one of these hats at Disneyland in broad daylight? If we wore one of these walking down the street in our neighborhood, we would surely raise some eyebrows, but at Disneyland this is the norm. I decided to start a new tradition 2 years ago and purchase one Disney Christmas hat per year, when they go on sale for half off after Christmas. Last year I also purchased some half off Santa hats, which I'm going to transform into Mickey Mouse Santa hats. I'm going to post those this Monday on my blog.

Show and Tell Friday

I finally got a white, pre-lit Christmas tree this year. I first one I saw at Target, was 199.99 on sale! No thanks, Target! Then what to my wondering eyes should appear? I came upon the same tree at Walmart for 35.00! Thank you Walmart! And thanks to Walmart and The 99 Cent Store, I was able to purchase quite a few glitter laden ornaments for a dollar each. I kinda think that Walmart gets that there's a recession going on. Anyhoo, I added my decorations that I've had forever and placed an old window frame which I painted a few years ago next to the tree.
